Order Here - Original ACEO Painting of Local Ice Cream Shop Bensons

Order Here
2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

A  little local scene.....this is the window at Benson's, a wonderful homemade ice cream place in West Boxford, Massachusetts. A long time local tradition - still owned by the same family (maybe third generation?) - they make all their own ice cream, using local fruit when in season. It is amazing stuff!

I paint a lot of little paintings of Bensons because it is such a popular spot that many people seem to want a little piece of it that they can hold on to. Many of these paintings have gone out of town to locals who have moved away, or sent to family members who have happy childhood memories of going there. So while it may seem repetitious, I will keep on doing these little paintings of Bensons as long as there are still people who feel such a connection to the place and want something to remember it by.

This painting is available at West Village Provisions, in West Boxford, Massachusetts

Three of a Kind - Small Still Life Painting Kitchen Art tomatoes

Three of a Kind
6 x 6 inches
acrylic on gessobord panel

Yes, I've been quiet for the last few days. We went away for a long family weekend. I do have a bunch of paintings done that I had hoped to schedule posts for while I was away, but I didn't get a chance to get that done, so now this week I will play catch up!

We spent the weekend hiking in the Delaware Water Gap and then visiting Gettysburg. We could have spent a lot more time in both places! I took a bunch of photos, but not nearly as many as I should have.

This little still life is similar to a composition I have visited before. I find that sometimes I will re-visit a set up I have used previously - sometimes changing the size or the way I approach it, sometimes just seeing  how I change things when I do it again. It is always interesting to me to see what I have learned and what has changed in my work - and is especially obvious when using a composition I have used before.

This painting is available at Positive Images Gallery in Haverhill, Massachusetts.

Full Circle Round - Small Still Life Painting Original Art for Kitchen

Full Circle Round
4 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Okay, cherry tomatoes must be one of the most fun things to paint ever. Yes, I know I've said that about a lot of different things. I guess that is what keeps me painting day after day - thinking each thing I am working on is the most enjoyable thing......

Together - Small Painting, Still Life Kitchen Art, Painting of Apple

Together
4 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

I played around with the background on this for a while. As a result, this piece ended up quite textured - which I kind of like. It is giving me some ideas with which I want to play......inspiration when you least expect it!

Sitting Back - Small Fruit Still Life Painting Kitchen Art

Sitting Back
4 x 4  inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

More kitchen inspiration......
Love the color of these red pears! So many colors in their skin - and always a challenge to paint.

Finally feels like spring here in New England. Can't wait to have some flowers blooming so I can paint them......

Keep it Together - Small Still Life Painting in Green and Blue

Keep it Together
4 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Loving the blues and greens on this one - and then the pops of other colors if you look closely.
I'm finding that painting these little kitchen pieces is very satisfying! Maybe because they are finished relatively quickly? (Well, at least most of them, I worked on a different one for way too long yesterday that I just could seem to get to a point where I was happy with it.) I'd love to set up a tent at a farmers  market, buy some produce there and then paint it all day. Wouldn't that be fun?! Hmmm.....

Roll with Me - Small Acrylic Painting, Kitchen Art Still Life 4x4

Roll with Me
4 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Yep, very similar to one I have done before! I was working from a series of sketches of ideas from my Fun-A-Day Project, and I didn't even realize I had worked from the same sketch before! I think I held on to it because I wanted to do a larger one, but in the meanwhile I now have another 4x4  ;-)
No matter - the other one is already gone anyways! I will be doing  8-10 new 4x4 paintings over the next few weeks inspired by my Fun-A-Day Project to go to 3-4 different galleries/shops that have requested them.

And speaking of my Fun-A-Day Project, a number of pieces sold at the show in Cambridge and I have just gotten the rest of them back. They are available in my DailyPaintworks gallery, and I am slowly adding them one-by-one to my Etsy shop.

Purple Pair - Oriignal ACEO Painting Candy Still Life Easter Peeps

Purple Pair
2-1/2 x 3-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

A quick little one for West Village Provisions to replace an Easter-themed painting that sold at the end of last week.

I've had purple bunny Peeps on my mind ever since a friend of mind posted a picture on Facebook of smores made with purple bunny Peeps. I knew I had to find some! A few stores later - SCORE! Purple bunny Peeps. A painting today - and probably smores tomorrow  ;-)

Robert - Small Acrylic Painting Still Life of Toy Man

Robert
4 x 4 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Another little Lego guy. I am having a lot of fun with these paintings. I am thinking about doing a bunch of Lego "portraits" - kind of Lego-sizing real people. Not famous people - just actual people I see in my daily life. Could be interesting!

This guy will be heading over to West Village Provisions in West Boxford with his friend "Paul" later this week.

Paul - Small Acrylic Painting, Still Life of Toys

Paul
4 x 4  inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

I just love these little Lego guys! I think it would be great fun to have a bunch of them hanging together in a kid's room. My kids have tons of Legos, so I hope to keep adding to this little series as I can. Toys are a lot of fun to paint - not only are they interesting graphically, but the links to memories are also a huge part of it. I really enjoy hearing people's stories and how they connect to the subjects when they see my paintings.

This guy will be heading to West Village Provisions in West Boxford, Massachusetts later this week once I finish his friend  ;-)

Location - Original ACEO Painting Cityscape Landscape Haverhill Building

Location
3-1/2 x 2-1/2 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

Another little piece for Positive Images Gallery in Haverhill.

This building is on a main corner leading into downtown Haverhill and is known as the "Woolworth Building".  It has stood empty for decades, but is now scheduled to be knocked down to make room for a new waterfront development. It is an intriguing example of art deco architecture - I would love to see the inside before it is demolished. A friend and I poked around the back of it the other day and I took some new photos of some of the details to use for some future paintings.

H.R. - Small Acrylic Painting Cityscape Landscape Haverhill, Massachusetts

H.R.
8 x 6 inches
acrylic on 3/4" cradled panel

Another Haverhill piece. This one is a little larger than the ACEOs I have been working with. I have been toying with  the idea of taking this one even larger - there are some compositional things that I like about this, but I'm not sure that I will do it again.

The H.R. part of the sign is no longer on the actual building. What was the "H.R. Sawyer Schwinn Bicyclery" is now "Riverside Cycles". The last time I drove by, it still said "Schwinn Bicyclery" - I hope they keep that part up!

Off to varnish a bunch of these pieces....they will be available at Positive Images Gallery in Haverhill  by next week.
