I sent in a bunch of entries to juried shows yesterday. Now we wait.

In the meanwhile, I need to complete a few pieces for some local venues.
First a few little florals. I did sketch this one on the first day of spring, but didn't get to paint it until today.

Morning Meeting - Still Life with Pears

Morning Meeting
10 x 8 inches
acrylic on canvas
reserved

I'm now working on a few still lifes for another local show. So many juried shows coming up - it's making me a nervous wreck!

Here I wanted to capture a little of the drama of the strong morning light and shadow, even though the colors of the pears and the bowl were pretty similar. There is quite a bit of red and blue in those pears - I think it will show a little better once I apply the final varnish.

I'm getting used to working 8x10 - but I am really looking forward to getting back to some smaller work when I'm done getting ready for these shows....

Easter Eggs - Colorful Still Life ACEO Painting

Easter Eggs
2.5 x 3.5 inches
acrylic on watercolor paper

This morning I got the entries ready for a local juried show ready for the mail along with an application to a juried holiday show and made the trip to the post office. I then came home with the intention of starting on the paintings I need to finish next week for another local juried show. It was a beautiful day, so I considered taking a few hours to paint outside, but I figured I had better get going on these entries because I have still one more show coming up after this one.

But then I found I couldn't concentrate. On anything.

I thought I already knew what I was going to paint for these paintings. I combed through my sketches and reference photos, set up props, and nothing looked right. Ick.

So rather than lose the whole day, I did this quick little painting, hoping to get myself back on track. I think it did the trick. I feel ready to get going on the new painting tomorrow. I hope.

Easter Eggs - $15.00 + $1.95 shipping in the US

I'm sending my entry in tomorrow for the Transformations show, so this will be the last one on that theme for a while. I still have a few flowers I want to work with, so hopefully I can get back to this little series soon.

Mood Swings - New Floral Painting

Mood Swings
10x8 inches
acrylic on canvas
reserved

Another one for the "Transformations" show. (See this earlier post for the first one I did.)
Between sick kids, half days of school and parent-teacher conferences, I feel like I am getting farther and farther behind! I am hoping to get two more 8x10s done to submit to this show, but I've only got a week until the deadline. And the deadline for a regional juried show is right behind that one. Maybe if I give up sleep?!!

Over the Hills - New Landscape Painting SOLD

Over the Hills
3x5 inches
acrylic on canvas
SOLD

I needed a break from the 8x10s, and I decided a mini landscape would be just the ticket!
I love Carol Marine's photo reference  for the "Horsing Around" challenge on DailyPaintworks, so I decided to work on an entry. Minus the horse. I love the feel of the rolling hills and just wanted to focus on them.
Back to the dead flowers tomorrow  ;-)
Here is a link to my DailyPaintworks gallery if you want to check it out!

Fading Memory - New Floral Painting

Fading Memory
10x8 inches
acrylic on canvas

Still working on a title for this one!  ;-)

This is for entry in an upcoming local exhibition where the theme is "Transformation"
I am planning on doing a small series based on the idea of aging, fading beauty, the changes we go through as we age, etc. My "models" are some flowers that are "past their prime". I always hold on to my flowers after they wilt and start to dry up - I find them more interesting, with a different energy. I hope this little series will celebrate the allure and intrigue gained with age, despite the loss of youthful and traditional beauty.

This is an idea I have wanted to work with for a while. I think I will only have a chance to complete a few paintings for the upcoming show, but I will definitely be revisiting the theme in the future!
This painting took longer than expected - I haven't been used to working 8x10 for a while (strange to think of that as being "big"!), but I've also had a sick little boy home since the weekend, so my painting time has been really fractured. I will probably take a break from the second one in this series tomorrow to do a quick little one for the DailyPaintworks.com weekly challenge. I think I need more hours in the day  ;-)

Summer Vine - Tomato Still Life Painting

Summer Vine
4x4 inches
acrylic on gessobord panel

I'm sorry that I don't have a new piece to post today!

I am currently working on some 8x10s for an upcoming show. It is amazing how large 8x10 seems after so many smaller pieces! I am fighting to maintain the focus to get these done - hopefully I will have the first one finished to post tomorrow.

In the meanwhile, I have posted this one from the end of last year. It has returned from a local exhibit and is now available.
